PURPOSE: To positively impact achievement for students throughout Spartanburg District 7 by providing support, training, and coaching related to Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and coordinating related efforts for Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Behavioral Health (BH).

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: MTSS Coordinator of Social Emotional and Behavioral Health (MTSS Coordinator) works to ensure implementation fidelity of evidence-based strategies in School District 7 (PreK-12th grade), including but not limited to the development of local implementation capacity of behavioral health policies, practices and programming to improve academic performance and implementation support of evidence-based practices at the District/School Leadership Team levels. Under the supervision of the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) and the Principals of schools being served.

 

Goals of MTSS Coordinator:

  1. Build capacity of schools and District to implement evidence-based policies, practices and programming to improve district’s ability to meet the SEL and BH needs of students with the ultimate goal to increase school performance.           
  2. Ensure fidelity of the evidence-based practices through monitoring, coaching and feedback to inform action towards implementation integrity.                                                                                                                                          
  3. Continuously provide feedback to the selection and training processes of MTSS.                                                            
  4. Coordinate with Social Emotional Learning, Compassionate Schools, Department of Mental Health, Mental Fitness, Spartanburg School District Consortium, Connect Spartanburg and Youth Suicide Taskforce to ensure coordinated systems in an effort to ensure evidence-based data driven strategies to improve SEL/BH of students.                             
  5. Coordinate with the broader community to ensure effective referrals and linkages to community supports for Tier 2 and 3 students and their families.

The MTSS Coordinator will:

 

? Ensure effective Implementation of MTSS

          o Prompt “before-during-after” activities related to MTSS leadership team trainings; participate in the trainings.

          o Communicate monthly, in person or via technology, with MTSS leadership team and/or MTSS coordinator at the                       district and school levels.                                                                                                                                     

? Build Capacity and Ensure Innovative Efforts to support MTSS system at District 7

          o Encourage skillful use of data to inform decision making, universal screening.

          o Celebrate progress toward goals with district and schools.

          o Communicate monthly with Principals and appropriate staff to ensure that implementation activities are coordinated               with the Read to Succeed and School Improvement processes in identified schools. November 24, 2020

          o Communicate monthly with the Chief Academic Officer and others as deemed appropriate by the CAO

          o Coordinate quarterly with building level efforts to support SEL/BH to prevent duplication and ensure evidence-based               protocols; SEL, Compassionate Schools, Mindfulness, Youth Suicide Prevention, etc.

          o Contribute to information sharing and problem solving during monthly 90- minute web meetings for those deemed                 appropriate to the SEL/BH MTSS work. Offer ongoing training and technical assistance as needed.                              

? Coordinate Community Supports for Tier 2 and 3 students

          o Attend Connect Spartanburg’s Community Advisory Board and serve as contact and coordinator of Office of                             Population Affairs Funding

          o Partner with Out of School Time Collaborative to ensure community support services for Tier 2 students on or off                     campus for middle and high school students                                                                                                          

? Continue to learn and advance D7 work in MTSS SEL/BH

          o Inclusive Teaching Practices and basics of South Carolina’s Read to Succeed Act; coaching standards and effective                   strategies; and use of technology for effective/efficient coaching.

          o Participate in professional development, at the request of the CAO to obtain competence in coaching and potential                   training in selected evidence-based practices.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in education and experience in the implementation of evidencebased practices.
  • Expertise in state and local assessment systems, including but not limited to data analysis, report interpretation, and use of data in implementing evidence-based practices.
  • Ability to work with representative leadership teams.
  • Familiarity with state and federal accountability standards.
  • At least five (5) years’ experience in public and/or private school or a related field.

Terms of Employment: 220 days

 

Evaluation: The quality of the coordinator services will be assessed using the SC evaluation standards and SSIP Partnership evaluation tools. Other evaluation tools may be implemented over time. Evaluation will include self-assessment and feedback from the school leadership team/coordinator.

 

Salary: Salary Scale commensurate with licensure/ certification, qualifications, and experience.
