QUALIFICATIONS: Certification in Elementary, Special Education, Early Childhood Education or related field.  Preferred candidates must be knowledgeable about the curriculum for Early Childhood and Elementary students, effective practices and interventions that promote student achievement, and effective interventions regarding teaching and learning.

 

JOB GOALS: To help students develop proficient reading skills that will contribute to their academic growth.

 

Primary Responsibility: Reading interventionists work extensively with students to help them improve specific reading skills such as letter-naming, initial sounds, phoneme segmentation, and comprehension strategies.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Works cooperatively with building principals and classroom teachers in their classrooms and with children in small groups.

  • Helps create scheduling of students
  • Attends all training class sessions.
  • Models best practice side by side with teachers.
  • Maintains regular attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.
  • Works with others consistently in a professional, cooperative, and respectful manner.
  • Consult frequently with classroom teachers on matters relating to reading instruction using our progress-monitoring instrument as a base.
  • Design interventions and write lesson plans detailing methods and materials.
  • Assist in the evaluation of ongoing programs and make recommendations for change.
  • Promote interest in reading.
  • Work with the classroom teacher to monitor student progress.
  • Willing to obtain Reading Recovery training if needed
