POSITION: Part-time Evening College and Career Navigator
SCHEDULE: Monday & Thursday 5:00 – 8:00
LOCATION: David Houston Center, Spartanburg Middle Tyger Community Center, Lyman
SALARY: $30.00/hour
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree, at minimum Minimum of 3 years college/career counseling experience
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organization skills Computer literate, with working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Counsel Adult Education students, one-on-one or in a group, to provide them of information on available community and educational services and to inform students of postsecondary and/or employment options;
- Research information and community services to best assist adult education students;
- Communicate with lead College and Career Navigator to make appropriate community resource referrals when necessary;
- Assist Adult Education students with supportive services needs while they are receiving adult education services by identifying and connecting students to services and activities to ensure successful transition into and completion of postsecondary education/training and/or employment;
- Track student progress through identified pathway benchmarks and follow-up with students to reconfirm goals or assist with alternate pathways according to changing student needs and interest;
- Present information about local postsecondary/other training opportunities to students.
- Collaborate with Spartanburg County Adult Education’s lead College and Career Navigator to coordinate on-site visits with the technical college counselor for the purpose of sharing program information with Adult Education students highlighting certificate, diploma, and degree programs, administration of the ACCUPLACER test at the local adult education site, provide student assistance with financial aid information and forms to be completed, and guide Adult Education students through the application process;
- Implement the program’s digital literacy curriculum via the Northstar Digital Literacy program, and proctor Northstar Digital Literacy assessments.
- Ensure proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies;
- Execute school/site administrative policies and translate such policies to the community in a professional manner;
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance, and submit required data and reports in a timely manner;
- Execute strategies to improve and maintain program outcomes;
- Maintain positive and professional working relationships with colleagues.
- Provide a model in mature behavior for adults, including, but not limited to, dress, punctuality, and polite communication.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Adult Education.
